Massachusetts Brewers Large and Small Tap into the Power of Unity

The Massachusetts Brewers Guild is organized for the purposes of promoting craft brewing and protecting the interests of craft brewers in Massachusetts.

Boston, MA – As the craft beer industry closes out 2007 with strong double-digit growth, Massachusetts brewers have come together to form the Massachusetts Brewers Guild.  Organized for the purposes of promoting craft brewing and protecting the interests of craft brewers in Massachusetts, the Guild has been formed as a not-for-profit corporation.  Membership is open to all Massachusetts breweries licensed by the federal Tax and Trade Bureau and the Commonwealth’s Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission.  Currently, there are 34 brewing licenses issued, which includes brewpubs, farm-breweries, and manufacturers.

“It’s an idea whose time has come,” explains Dan Kenary, co-founder of the Harpoon Brewery and President of the newly formed Guild.  “As the number of breweries in Massachusetts continues to increase, it is important to collectively focus our efforts on getting the beer drinking public to recognize the many benefits of locally produced beer.  By working together on industry affairs and various promotional activities, we can better serve the interests of both craft beer drinkers and Massachusetts craft brewers.”

“As the producer of a fresh, local product in a growing industry, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work together with other Massachusetts brewers to find new and exciting ways to promote craft beer and address issues related to our industry,” explains Todd Marcus, Brewmaster/President of Cape Cod Beer, Inc. and Promotions and Public Relations Committee Chair of the newly formed guild.

"With craft brewers continuing to enjoy strong growth across the country, efforts on the state level have never been more important” comments Charlie Papazian, President of the Brewer’s Association, a trade group representing over 880 breweries across the United States.  “We at the Brewer’s Association look forward to working with the Massachusetts Brewers Guild to protect and promote the interest of craft brewers."

The Massachusetts Brewers Guild is a newly formed 501(c)(6) non-profit corporation, organized for the purposes of promoting craft brewing and protecting the interests of craft brewers in Massachusetts. It is actively seeking membership from the brewing community throughout Massachusetts.  The newly elected board of directors is made up of the following brewing industry leaders in the Commonwealth:
